Notes:
Two known Variants
in pattern exist in different colors with this rose bowl. One has a
stippled rays pattern pressed into the interior and the other has a
sunflower pattern pressed into the interior of the rose bowl. One known
Variant in glass usage on some colors noted above and below received an
additional treatment of Opalescent glass to the crimp area.
Color of Bowl
Plain or Rayed interior:
Amethyst, Aqua, Aqua Opalescent, Blue, Blue
– Electric, Green, Green-emerald, Ice Blue, Ice Blue
Opalescent, Ice Green, Ice Green Opalescent, Lavender, Marigold =
(Golden Iris), Sapphire Blue, Teal & White.
Colors with
sunflower interior:
Amethyst - purple, Amethyst – black, Aqua - Teal, Blue -
Sapphire, Green, Ice Blue, Marigold = (Golden Iris),
Sapphire Blue.
Colors with
smooth edge rose bowl:
Amethyst, Custard – pearlized, Green – floral interior Lavender &
Marigold.
The names of colors
above are modern collector’s terms to identify minor differences in
glass colors. Northwood base colors and or names are in bold italics.
Glass Type:
Base glass is
normally transparent Clear, Green, Blue & Amethyst. However, opaque
glasses such as Milk Glass (Opal) and Custard Glass (Ivory) was
iridized.
Bowl:
Footed (Qty.3) bowl,
which exhibits a half round shape with 15 inward facing large crimps.
Interior of the rose bowl in flat to slightly convex. Three convex
bumps occur on the inside of the rose bowl where legs are attached to
the outside. The Plain Interior bowl has a smooth inside except
for the previous items and the circle
N Northwood mark. On
the Ray Interior bowl a pressed ray pattern extended from a
circle created from the marie (collar base) to the lip of the interior
of the bowl. On the Sunflower Interior rose bowl a flower
pattern extends from the circle created from the marie to the lip of the
interior of the bowl.
The
exterior of the rose bowl has collar base and a pressed pattern of
leaves starting at the collar base and extending 25% of the way up the
exterior of the bowl, where the beads start and continue to almost to
the bottom of the crimps. Three vine like or wood looking semicircular
legs are attached to the exterior. The Sunflower Exterior lacks
the crimps and has a smooth to dimple rim.
Decoration:
None beyond
original iridescent treatment unless the rose bowl received
Opalescent treatment to
the crimp area.
